New Bern Civic Theatre Salutes Her Brightest Stars--On and Off Stage.
John Baldwin, Master of Ceremonies, Hosts an exciting Awards Gala.
The Awards Gala will feature entertainemt from the highlights of the 2009 season. After the Awards Ceremony, refreshments will be served in the Christ Episcopal Church Ministry Center.
Join us for a night of fun, accolades, and laughter.

Crowns weaves together a variety of stories from different characters, time periods and perspectives that, when integrated with music and dance, create a tapestry of voices that transcend time and place. The brainy and beautiful Belle yearns to escape her provincial life...and her brute of a suitor, Gaston. However, Belle gets more adventurous than she wanted when she becomes a captive in the Beasts enchanted castle! Dancing flatware, menacing wolves, and singing furniture fill the stage with thrills in this beloved fairy tale about very different people finding strength in one another and learning how to love.

1776 is a musical based on the events leading to the writing and signing of the United States Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.
The show was nominated for five Tony Awards and won three, including Best Musical.

Athens Theatre History

Construction began on the Athens Theatre at 412 Pollock Street in 1910. The doors opened April 11, 1911. Designed by architect Herbert W. Simpson, the Athens Theatre was a gala theatre for silent movies, Vaudeville, traveling theatre troupes and locally-produced live productions.
