Arts in April is an annual month-long celebration of the arts New Bern has on offer. The community is rich with talent of all kinds and New Bern Civic Theatre invites anyone curious about any aspect of performing/theatre arts to join in the fun, April 19 at The Athens Theatre in downtown New Bern. No experience necessary, this is a day for dramatic play of all kinds and/or for those wanting to learn more about community theatre involvement. 45-minute workshops will run throughout the day. If you would like to participate in workshops there is a $10 Day Pass that will allow adults age 15 and up entrance to all workshops, all day. Workshops will include an Overview on Directing, Principles of Acting, Improv Essentials, Contemporary Broadway Style Singer Techniques, A Choreography Guide to Stage Dance, Costuming, Technical Theatre 101 and more. FREE events will be continuous through the day with a line-up of New Works Reader’s Theatre scenes or 10-minute play presentations, open mic monologues or spoken word presentations, improv comedy segments, dance challenges, backstage tours and more. If you have a New Works original scene or short play written not exceeding 10-minutes you’d like to submit for the Reader’s Theatre performances please send scripts to: info@newberncivictheatre.org with “READER’S THEATRE” in the subject window. This festival is intentionally “pop-up” in style so the creative spirit has room for spontaneous inclusion of whoever chooses to participate. NOTE: While participation in the workshops is for those age 15 and up, the content of all FREE activities will be Rated [PG] and appropriate for families to observe with kids of any age.
